Lodging For The Alpine Challenge

Alpine is a great community to relax away from the concrete and bustle of the city.
You have several options for planning your weekend in Alpine.

Ayres Lodge Alpine
In Alpine, just off the Tavern Road exit, is the Ayres Lodge Alpine. There are 98 rooms; each room also includes a matching handcrafted mahogany armoire, desk and Queen Anne style bed. The rooms have cable TV and internet connectivity as well as a refrigerator and coffee maker. The hotel features a heated pool, whirlpool spa, continental breakfast and newspaper.  The Friday and Saturday night rates are $159.95 for either a King room or a 2 Queen room. AAA members get a 10% discount. Call for availability (619) 445-5800. Visit their Web site for more information.

East of Alpine about 10 miles is the Pine Valley Inn; it is just off I-8 so it is a short 15 minute drive. They have 21 rooms and have catered to other bike events in the past. Be sure to mention the "Kiwanis Alpine Challenge Bike Ride" when making your reservations for a 5% discount. The rate for Friday and Saturday are $79.99, Sunday is $69.99. The rate is for either a single or double occupancy with kids up to 18 for free. AAA members get a 5% discount. There are several restaurants in the area including Major's Diner, the Descanso Junction Restaurant and the Pine Valley Store Deli. The phone number is (619) 473-8560. Visit their Web site for more information. Plan to spend Saturday night and visit colorful Julian on your way back home.
Holt Travel
For smaller and more rustic accommodations, try the Alpine Motel, (619) 445-7922, or the Alpine Country Cottages Motel, (619) 445-3448. These reasonably priced motels are located on Alpine Blvd. in the center of town.
You can consider some near-by motels (El Cajon is "down the hill" about 10 miles), or plan to spend a long weekend in the San Diego area. Visit the Zoo, Sea World, Old Town, the Gaslamp District, or Coronado. For your lodging needs, contact Holt Travel, an Alpine Challenge sponsor, at (888) 826-4658.
